A deep indigo, close to the colour raw denim reaches after its first year of wear — except this one arrives already there, because the shirt is stone-washed after it is finished rather than before it is cut. Open over a white t-shirt it reads as weekend; buttoned under a grey or tobacco jacket it reads as a shirt.

Every Cordone1956 shirt is handmade in our workshop in Aielli, Abruzzo, and this one is no exception: the buttonholes are stitched by hand with Italian thread, 15 to 20 minutes each. The sleeve is set with the manica spostata — the sleeve head moved a few millimetres from the standard position, so the denim does not pull across the chest when you raise your arms. The buttons are mother-of-pearl: they do not crack in the wash and they take on a quiet patina over the years.

The cloth is 120/2 cotton denim — two yarns twisted together on warp and weft, roughly 40% denser than single-yarn denim, which is why it holds its colour and its shape for years. Its stretch is natural, from the yarn and the weave: no elastane, no synthetics. The shirt is then stone-washed as a finished garment, so the indigo settles into the seams and the collar the way it does on denim already worn for a season.

The darker of the two washes, and the one that works furthest into the evening. Part of our Casual Collection, Autumn/Winter 2026-27.
