A navy that reads almost black in low light and softens to deep indigo in daylight — the melange of the cashmere-cotton knit keeps it from ever looking flat. This is the polo you reach for when a shirt is too formal and a sweatshirt is not an option: it takes a grey flannel trouser as easily as raw denim, and it disappears under a navy or brown jacket without a fight.

The front of this polo is made by hand: the placket and every buttonhole are stitched in our workshop in Aielli, Abruzzo, at 15 to 20 minutes per buttonhole. The sleeve is set with the manica spostata — the sleeve head moved a few millimetres from the standard position, so the fabric does not pull across the chest when you raise your arms. The buttons are natural horn, cut and polished one by one.

The cloth is a knit of 80% cotton and 20% cashmere, spun and finished in Italy. The cotton holds the collar and the placket in shape; the cashmere adds the softness and the quiet warmth a pure cotton polo cannot reach in winter. Mid-weight: warm from November to March, light enough to wear under a jacket.

A: Hand wash or wool cycle at 30 degrees, mild detergent, inside out. Dry flat, never on a hanger and never in a tumble dryer. Iron on low heat, avoiding the horn buttons.
